Mandela Washington Fellowship 2025 for Young African Leaders
Applications are now open for the YALI 2025 Mandela Washington Fellowship! This is your chance to join a group of 700 passionate young African leaders who will be heading to the United States next summer for an enriching, life-changing experience.
This program isn’t just about building your leadership skills; it’s about empowering you to make a real difference in your community and beyond.
Who Can Apply?
We’re looking for young leaders who are:
- Aged 25-35 (as of September 10, 2024), but if you’re between 21-24 and have an exceptional track record, we still want to hear from you!
- Not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident—this is an opportunity specifically for African leaders.
- Eligible for a J-1 visa to the U.S.
- Not employed by the U.S. Government or closely related to someone who is (think U.S. embassy staff, USAID employees, etc.).
- Proficient in English—you’ll need to be comfortable reading, writing, and speaking the language. Don’t worry if you’re deaf; we’ve got additional support on the way.
- A citizen and resident of one of the eligible African countries (listed below) and plan to live there through May 2025 and during the Fellowship.
Please Note: Unfortunately, this isn’t a family program—Fellows will need to attend on their own.
