AAUW International Fellowship Program 2024/2025 for Master’s, Doctoral & Postdoctoral Studies in the U.S.
The 2025 Australia Awards Fellowships are now accepting applications! These fellowships are all about building strong networks and partnerships between Australian organizations and professionals from around the world, with the goal of fostering leadership and driving development in key areas.
What Are Australia Awards Fellowships?
These fellowships offer senior and mid-career professionals from eligible countries a chance to come to Australia for short-term study, research, and professional development.
While they don’t lead to a degree, they provide invaluable skills and connections to help you make a real difference back home. Fellows are chosen through a competitive process, with Australian organizations nominating the candidates.

Who Can Apply?
If you’re a senior official or mid-career professional who is passionate about advancing development and foreign affairs, you may be eligible. To qualify, you need to:
- Be at least 18 years old by the time the Fellowship starts
- Not be a permanent resident of Australia or applying for permanent residency (or be married to someone who is)
- Be a citizen of an eligible country
- Not be a current serving military personnel
- Meet all visa requirements for Australia’s Department of Home Affairs (student visa subclass 500)
- Be able to participate in the program without family members (DFAT only provides support for individual Fellows)
- If you have a disability, you’ll need to travel with a carer
Which Countries Are Eligible?
The following African countries are eligible for the 2025 Australia Awards Fellowships:
Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

What Does the Fellowship Cover?
Australian organizations can request up to AUD $34,500 per Fellow (for up to 15 Fellows). This funding covers:
- International and in-country travel costs
- Training expenses
- Accommodation and living allowances
- Medical insurance (for Fellows only)
- Special assistance for Fellows with disabilities
- Program overhead fees
Focus Areas for the Fellowships
Programs supported by the Fellowships must align with one of these six development priorities:
- Climate change, adaptation, resilience, and green energy transition (including critical minerals mining)
- Gender equality, disability inclusion, and social equity
- Health
- Digital economy, cybersecurity, and media engagement
- Maritime and the Blue Economy
- Infrastructure and connectivity
Important Dates to Remember
- Applications Open: 2 September 2024
- Application Deadline: 13 October 2024 (11:59 PM AEST)
- Notifications to Applicants: From May 2025 (successful and unsuccessful candidates)
- Grant Payments Start: From May 2025
- Final Grant Payments: By 21 July 2025
- Submission Deadline for Supplementary Forms: Six months before mobilization to Australia (30 June 2025)
