The British Council Scotland SGSAH EARTH Scholarships 2025 is an exciting opportunity for PhD and early-career researchers passionate about the arts, humanities, and the environment.

Funded by the British Council and managed by the Scottish Graduate School for Arts & Humanities (SGSAH), this program aims to create meaningful international research collaborations.

It connects researchers with Scottish universities, expert mentors, and key organizations to explore how the arts and humanities can contribute to tackling global challenges like climate change.

Program Overview

This scholarship is designed to foster research partnerships across disciplines. It encourages PhD and early-career researchers to think outside the box by combining their arts and humanities expertise with fields like science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEAM). The aim? To inspire fresh perspectives on addressing the pressing issue of climate change.

The program will fully fund 7 to 9 researchers, with additional participants coming from SGSAH’s AHRC- and SFC-funded PhD scholars.

Who Can Apply?

To apply, you should meet these criteria:

• Be a current PhD researcher in Arts & Humanities at a non-UK university, or
• Be an Early Career Researcher (ECR) who completed a PhD at a non-UK university within the last year. (This can be extended up to 2 years for those with caregiving responsibilities or health issues.)
• PhD candidates must provide a letter of support from their supervisor.
• Interdisciplinary PhD projects are welcome as long as at least 50% of the research is in the Arts & Humanities.
• The program is open to applicants from all over the world, with a special focus on candidates from the Global South (including Rwanda, Zambia, Pakistan, Malawi, and India).
