What You Get as a Scholar

As a Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholar, you’re not just receiving financial support; you’re gaining a network and experiences that can shape your future. Here’s what you’ll receive:

• Up to $50,000 per year for three years to cover your tuition and living expenses, so you can focus on your doctoral research and the Foundation’s programs.
• Up to $20,000 per year for three years for research, networking, and travel related to your studies and the Foundation’s initiatives.
• Membership in a community of scholars, mentors, and fellows who are leaders in their fields. You’ll also become part of the Foundation’s alumni network, which will support you throughout your life.

Are You Eligible?

To apply, you’ll need to meet the following criteria:

• You must be enrolled in, or accepted into, a full-time doctoral program (first or second year).
• Your field of study should be related to the humanities, social sciences, or human sciences—and directly relevant to the future of Canada.
• Your doctoral research should connect with at least one of these four key themes:
  • Human Rights and Dignity
  • Responsible Citizenship
  • Canada and the World
  • People and their Natural Environment
• You must be:
  • A Canadian citizen studying at a Canadian or foreign institution, or
  • A permanent resident of Canada, or
  • A foreign national enrolled in a doctoral program at a Canadian institution.
