Scholarship Details

The University of Buffalo is offering scholarships for PhD and Master’s students in Computational Hydrology. These opportunities are available through the newly established Actionable Computational Terrestrial Hydrology Lab (a.c.t. hydro lab), led by Dr. Yifan Cheng at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Our lab focuses on developing cutting-edge numerical modeling methods to better understand how water-related sectors can adapt to climate change, especially in cold regions. We work closely with experts from various sectors—like energy, ecosystems, and local communities—to ensure our research and models are practical, relevant, and impactful.

Eligibility Requirements for the University of Buffalo Graduate Scholarship 2025

To be considered for the scholarship, you’ll need to meet the following requirements:

Basic Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Hydrology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field
• Strong analytical skills and a problem-solving mindset
• Experience with coding (e.g., Python, Fortran, C++) and data analysis
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Preferred Qualifications:

• A Master’s degree in a related field
• Familiarity with physically-based hydrologic models
• A passion for research that makes a difference, particularly in interdisciplinary settings involving experts in hydrology and other water-related sectors
• Programming skills and previous research experience are a big plus!
