The African Centre for Cities (ACC) is thrilled to open applications for the 2024 University of Cape Town Scholarship!

This is a fantastic chance for graduate students interested in urban studies and energy transitions to further their education with a fully funded scholarship.

What You’ll Get

The scholarship provides $13,580 annually for up to three years, with additional funds available for fieldwork and travel. It’s a great opportunity to dive into your studies without worrying about tuition or other expenses.

What’s the Scholarship About?

The ACC is offering these scholarships through the CLAIMS to Energy Citizenship project, backed by DANIDA. This project focuses on energy transitions in South Africa and has three main areas of interest:

  • WP1: How people access and use energy in their daily lives.
  • WP2: How local governments and processes are evolving in energy transitions.
  • WP3: Combining insights from WP1 and WP2 to understand energy infrastructure and citizenship.

We’re looking for two passionate Masters students for the MPhil in Urban Studies – Southern Urbanism program at UCT. If you’re interested in urban infrastructure and energy issues, this could be a perfect fit!

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, you should:

  • Have a four-year Bachelor’s degree (including Honours) or another Master’s degree by February 2025.
  • Be ready to study full-time in the MPhil in Urban Studies – Southern Urbanism program at UCT.
  • Be enthusiastic about engaging in the project, including meetings, workshops, and research tasks.
  • Not hold other scholarships or full-time jobs at the same time.
