VIA Global Community Fellowship 2024/2025
The VIA Global Community Fellowship is a unique 13-15 month opportunity for recent graduates, early-career professionals, and even those with more experience to make a difference in Asia.
As a fellow, you’ll work with NGOs, schools, universities, and social enterprises, contributing to community development, capacity-building, and education.
Through hands-on work with local communities, you’ll learn how innovative organizations across Asia are tackling some of today’s most pressing social challenges.
Fellows are involved in a range of tasks, with responsibilities generally falling into these categories:
- Education: Help students build critical thinking and cross-cultural communication skills, opening doors to future academic and career opportunities.
- Training & Capacity-Building: Design training programs and resources that will help partner organizations run more effectively and maximize their impact. You might work on needs assessments, research, workshop design, facilitation, and program evaluation for staff or the communities they serve.
- Community Development: Assist with projects that support local development and help connect communities to resources, networks, and opportunities. This could include fundraising, project management, and community outreach for partner organizations.

What’s Covered
The fellowship is fully funded by VIA, with help from alumni, grants, and partners. Here’s what’s included:
- About three weeks of training to prepare you for your role, covering program management, cross-cultural communication, leadership, local language lessons, and teacher training.
- Full emergency medical and evacuation insurance (you’ll be reimbursed for any additional coverage you might need).
- A living and housing stipend that’s adjusted to the local cost of living in your post location.
- Intra-Asia travel (including travel to your post and the final wrap-up conference).
- Language study grants and tutoring are available at some posts.
Who Can Apply?
The fellowship is open to early-career and experienced professionals who have completed at least a four-year undergraduate degree by the time they begin their post.
Due to visa and work permit requirements, as well as the needs of partner organizations, many posts are reserved for U.S. citizens or residents, or for those who’ve earned a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. university. If you’re not a U.S. citizen, your eligibility will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
