New America #ShareTheMicInCyber Fellows 2025
Applications are now open for the 2025 New America #ShareTheMicInCyber Fellowship! This fellowship is all about uplifting voices from underrepresented communities in cybersecurity, helping to strengthen our nation’s resilience against digital threats.
This program offers mid-career cybersecurity professionals from diverse backgrounds a unique opportunity to dive into independent policy research, tackle critical cybersecurity issues, and explore the human side of this field.
If selected, you’ll be a Fellow from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025, working alongside others who are just as passionate about making a difference.
What You’ll Get

Who Should Apply
- Mid-career professionals with at least 3 years of experience.
- Individuals with a proven ability to work independently, strong writing skills, and a keen interest in cybersecurity or related fields like data privacy, emerging technology, or workforce training.
What’s Expected of You
- Complete your project within nine months (by the end of September 2025), leaving the final three months for promotion and outreach. New America will help with outreach, but you’ll also need to identify key people and organizations to connect with.
- Commit to:
- Attending a virtual orientation in January 2025 and an in-person closing event in October 2025.
- Completing an independent project that results in an approved work product.
- Engaging with the public on your research or related topics before your work is published in Fall 2025/Winter 2026.
- Representing New America in any public writing or speaking related to your fellowship work.
How to Apply
You’ll need to submit:
- A resume or CV (no longer than 3 pages).
- Two essays:
- A project proposal (1,000 words or less).
- A personal statement (500 words).
- The name and email of one recommender, who may be contacted if you move to the interview stage.
- Optional: Up to three work samples.
